Painting is like a window into the imagination. Painting creates a space for viewers to meditate, reflect, question, and enjoy the mind and emotion that manifests into a two-dimensional picture plane and tactile physical object. Painting is an act of discovery. Julia looks at painting as a safe space to engage topics such as: fantasy, pleasure, joy, psychology, intellectual curiosity, humor, and transcendence. The process of painting is just as important as the painting itself. For her, the process of painting encompasses an active method of working through emotions, settling the mind, and activating a space where emotions have no boundaries. Julia’s work takes on various forms: contemporary still life, landscapes, portraits, and interior domestic spaces. She sees her practice as “ever-evolving,” allowing her to revisit themes and the freedom to depart into unknown areas. Each “space” encomposes a different facet/dimention of being.
